Subject. Educational loans in Russia. Objectives. To examine the current state of educational loans and to propose certain improvements. Methods. Comparative analysis and a systems approach were employed. Results. It is noted that in 2007–2013, an experiment was conducted in the country to provide state support for educational lending. Initially, the lending terms were more stringent. Currently, with state support, the terms have become more favorable. When improving educational loan mechanisms with state participation, the distance of the university from the center, the number of children being raised in the family, and the borrower’s study period should be taken into account. Conclusions. Educational loans with state support are a socially oriented instrument that significantly expands access to high‑quality higher education and opens up new professional opportunities for a wide range of applicants.
