My starting point in this article is the ethnography I conducted with students in the Youth and Adult Education program at the Colégio de Aplicação, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, between 2016 and 2018. I discuss the understanding of ethics inherent to the research modalities of anthropology and, as I problematize, I will establish new possible elaborations. In the text, through field diary notes, theoretical dialogue, and detailed descriptions of fieldwork, I will expose to readers the intricacies of tensions in the specificity of ethical, and consequently, epistemological processes dear to ethnographic practice. The results point to the need to reflect accurately on ethicality not as a product of formal relations or documentary matrices, but as an affective, moral, and tensional content inherent in the relationship between interlocutors and researcher.
