We systematically examine the applicability of a recently proposed effective potential for describing heavy-ion fusion reactions within the dinuclear system (DNS) model. This potential reliably reproduces experimental barrier heights and capture excitation functions across a range of systems. For reactions with entrance channels near the Businaro–Gallone (B.G.) point, the predicted fusion probabilities agree well with experimental data, indicating that the potential captures the key dynamical effects relevant to such reactions. However, for reactions with entrance channels far from the B.G. point, the present treatment of dynamics is insufficient, and the evolution of the relative motion degree of freedom needs to be incorporated in future models. Overall, this effective potential offers a practical framework for near-barrier fusion reaction studies, balancing computational efficiency with dynamical realism, particularly for systems near the B.G. point.
