Ambulatory BP monitoring reveals distinct hemodynamic profiles between professional athletes and patients with cardiometabolic disease.
Why the study?
Autonomic cardiovascular regulation disorders occur in both professional athletes from chronic physical overstrain and patients with metabolic and cardiovascular pathologies from direct disease mechanisms.
How do daily blood pressure indicators and hemodynamic profiles compare between professional athletes and patients with obesity, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes in the context of physical rehabilitation?

How do daily blood pressure indicators and hemodynamic profiles compare between professional athletes and patients with obesity, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes in the context of physical rehabilitation?
Daily blood pressure monitoring reveals fundamental differences in the hemodynamic profiles between professional athletes and patients with obesity, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes, providing a basis for differentiated physical rehabilitation programs.
Autonomic dysregulation spans elite athletes and metabolic patients; leaves open whether management should differ by etiology.
It has been proven that disorders of autonomic regulation of the cardiovascular system are characteristic of two opposite cohorts: professional athletes and patients with metabolic and cardiovascular pathologies (obesity, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus). If in athletes autonomic dysfunction is a consequence of chronic physical overstrain, exceeding the adaptation reserve, then in patients with metabolic syndrome damage to autonomic nerves is due to the direct influence of pathogenetic factors of the disease. For individuals with metabolic disorders, an individualized rehabilitation program was developed, which combined aerobic and strength training to normalize metabolism, cardiac function and body weight. Daily blood pressure monitoring was performed for all participants on a day free from training, according to a standardized protocol using the Heaco ABPM50 device. The obtained data revealed a fundamental difference in the hemodynamic profile between the adapted organism of athletes and patients with comorbid pathology. The identified pathophysiological patterns are the basis for the development of differentiated physical rehabilitation programs.

Ataman et al. (2026) conducted an observational in Autonomic dysfunction in professional athletes vs. patients with obesity, arterial hypertension, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Individualized physical rehabilitation program (combined aerobic and strength training) and metabolic/cardiovascular pathology vs. Professional athletes was evaluated on Daily blood pressure indicators and hemodynamic profile via 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (Heaco ABPM50). Daily blood pressure monitoring (Heaco ABPM50) revealed fundamental hemodynamic differences between professional athletes and patients with obesity, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes.
