India ranks among the world’s fastest-growing exporters, yet research into the factors influencing its export performance remains fragmented. Purpose: This study aims to critically synthesize and analyze the current state of knowledge on India’s export performance determinants. In doing so, this study addresses gaps in the growing and fragmented body of literature and proposes future research directions. Method: By adopting a domain-based systematic literature review, this study identified 79 relevant papers from the Scopus database. A narrative and thematic analysis was employed to synthesize theoretical frameworks, context, characteristics (relationships), and methodological techniques (TCCM) framework. Results: After an extensive review, this study identified 174 export-related antecedents, comprising 101 internal and 73 external factors on India’s export performance. Identified factors were thematically categorized into five aggregated categories, each rooted in resource-based and industrial organization theories to distinguish internal capabilities from external market conditions: (1) international level, (2) national level, (3) market and industry level, (4) organizational level, and (5) individual level factors. These aggregated categories are further divided into 19 distinct subcategories. Contributions: This study contributes to the body of literature by uncovering underexplored areas in India’s export context, especially in the service sector. Finally, this review proposes an integrated research framework based on theoretical views to promote research on India’s export performance by synthesizing and emphasizing trends and methodological advancements.
