The ethical implications of artificial intelligence have recently become a prominent topic of academic discourse, driven by the exponential growth in both the usage and development of AI, which has become an integral component of modern technology. Nevertheless, despite the ongoing research in this field, the issue of AI ethics remains a point of contention, as evidenced by the ongoing debates among researchers. The objective of this paper is to gain insight into the challenges of integrating ethics into AI and to identify potential solutions to these challenges. To this end, we conducted an update to the systematic literature review published by Cerqueira in 2021. We found out that the majority of studies (63%) presents a practical solution to facilitate the implementation of AI ethics. Furthermore, a list of 26 major ethical principles was identified, which have been discussed throughout the literature. The review revealed a considerable diversity in the methods, processes, and suggestions proposed, regarding the type of approach, life cycle phase, and objectives. Our conclusion is that, despite the current limitations of AI ethics, the field is already addressing many solutions to mitigate the risks and ethical problems present in AI systems.
