Poetry employs language that may deviate from conventional forms as part of the poet’s stylistic creativity. This study aims to describe morphological deviations as a mechanism of foregrounding in the Gurindudendam poetry anthology of Riau Malay Literature Festival event. For that purpose, a qualitative descriptive method through reading and note-taking techniques is used. The data was collected by carefully reading all the poems, identifying data presumbly underwent morphological deviations, classifying the data to confirm morphological deviation based on the forms and rules of Indonesian morphology, and analyzing the findings to draw conclusions. The results showed 20 data of morphological deviation including 13 data of unusual affixation, 4 data of affix omission, and 3 data of reduplication. These forms indicate the use of morphological deviation as a foregrounding mechanism to highlight certain linguistic forms in poetry, thereby contributing to learners of Indonesian language and literature.
