We present a genome assembly from an individual Empis opaca (Dark-kneed Dagger Fly; Arthropoda; Insecta; Diptera; Empididae). The assembly contains two haplotypes with total lengths of 542.88 megabases and 435.77 megabases. Most of the haplotype 1 assembly (73.83%) was scaffolded into six chromosomal pseudomolecules. Haplotype 2 was assembled to scaffold level. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled, with a length of 18.77 kilobases. This assembly was generated as part of the Darwin Tree of Life project, which produces genomes for eukaryotic species found in Britain and Ireland.
