In 2025, 222 registered archaeological fieldwork projects were carried out in Estonia, most of them prompted by heritage protection requirements. Compared with previous years, the results were typical both in terms of the types of sites investigated and the methods used. Among the most notable discoveries were the remains of a Stone Age building at Sindi-Lodja, a Final Iron Age and medieval settlement site on Muhu, and the foundations of a medieval Orthodox church in Tartu. The handling of war graves also prompted debate, as they have come under increased scrutiny in connection with the dismantling of Soviet monuments.
