In this article we analyze how the COVID-19 pandemic along with the preventive isolation measures implemented by national states exacerbated gender and socioeconomic inequalities in Latin America, especially in relation to the social organization of care in poor neighborhoods in Argentina. We focus on the crucial role played by socio-community organizations in the provision of care and food assistance during the crisis. We analyze 26 territorially-based social organizations in seven regions of the country. We used a data sheet and surveys to develop a description based on a quantitative approach and attempt to link the characteristics of the organizations with the type of service they offer, the sources and amount of resources available to them, as well as their relationship with the different levels of the State. Finally, we highlight how the context of the socioeconomic and health crisis has made visible the importance of community care and the need to shift it from the private sphere to a public and collective responsibility.
