The companion preceding paper, Ontological Folding: A High-Order Metacognitive Capacity for Cross-Paradigm Unification and Its Intellectual-Historical Evidence, completed the definition, criterion construction, intellectual-historical case validation, and trainability protocol design of ontological folding as a metacognitive operation. It transformed the traditional Neo-Confucian doctrine of one principle manifesting in multiple forms, previously a matter of personal insight, into a verifiable, correctable, and teachable cognitive instrument. The present paper extends this methodology outward from the specialized domains of intellectual history and philosophy of science to the civilizational scale. It argues that binary opposition is not merely a speculative error, but a systemic cognitive bias endogenous to modern civilization, continuously selected for and amplified by educational systems. This paper introduces civilizational cognitive reserve as a core analytical concept, examines how modern standardized educational institutions actively generate the two cognitive pathologies of false binarization and forced unification, and elaborates the civilizational value, applicable boundaries, and implementation pathways of ontological folding as a cognitive corrective. The core thesis of this paper is as follows: the resilience of a civilization does not depend solely on accumulated information, knowledge, and technology, but on the stock of high-order self-reflexive cognitive capacities it maintains. Long-term civilizational survival and creative iteration rely on a subset of the population possessing the metacognitive capacity for cross-paradigm unification, tension preservation, and origin tracing. Before the modern era, such cross-paradigm reflexive capacities were perpetuated through various implicit transmission mechanisms. After the rise of the modern industrialized disciplinary system, these traditional transmission channels gradually disintegrated. Mainstream education, centered on categorical memorization, label classification, and standardized answers as its core training objectives, naturally selects for and preferentially retains binary thinking while continuously suppressing the development of ontological folding capacity, producing a rupturing depletion of civilizational cognitive reserve. Ontological folding is not a new ideology, nor does it aim to eliminate all disagreement. It functions as a civilizational-grade cognitive fault-tolerance mechanism: between the two destructive trajectories of polarizing opposition and homogenizing unification, it sustains the middle path of traceable common origin, preservable differences, and verifiable boundaries.
