The formation of priestly vocation is rooted in a deep integration of spiritual and theological dimensions, especially through the embodiment of the evangelical counsels—poverty, chastity, and obedience. This article offers a spiritual-theological evaluation of the apostolic exhortation Pastores Dabo Vobis, with a specific focus on how these counsels shape and sustain the identity and mission of diocesan priests. Using a qualitative-descriptive methodology supported by textual analysis, this study explores the intrinsic relationship between the evangelical counsels and the four dimensions of priestly formation: human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral. The findings reveal that Pastores Dabo Vobis positions the evangelical counsels not merely as ascetical practices, but as foundational pillars that cultivate a coherent priestly identity grounded in Christological imitation. The study highlights the pastoral necessity of re-integrating these counsels into seminary formation programs and ongoing priestly development to address contemporary challenges faced by clergy. This research contributes to ongoing theological discourse on vocational integrity, and proposes a renewed model of priestly formation rooted in Gospel values.
