Why the study?
Hypertension among older adults requires continuous treatment, medication adherence, and routine blood-pressure monitoring. This activity sought to describe medication-adherence status and blood-pressure screening results while providing hypertension management education and mentoring to elderly Prolanis participants in Talang Leak Village, Lebong Regency.

In this rural Indonesian elderly hypertension community program, the high prevalence of elevated blood pressure (73.9%) and suboptimal medication adherence (78.2% moderate or non-adherent) highlights the need for ongoing counseling and longitudinal monitoring.
High uncontrolled BP and moderate adherence persist in this small elderly cohort; hypothesis-generating for targeted interventions before practice change.
Hypertension is a chronic non-communicable disease that requires continuous treatment and monitoring, particularly among older adults. Medication adherence and routine blood-pressure monitoring are important components of hypertension management. This community-service activity aimed to describe medication-adherence status, describe blood-pressure screening results, and provide education and mentoring regarding hypertension management among elderly residents participating in the Prolanis activity in Talang Leak Village, Lebong Regency. A descriptive participatory community-service design was used. Blood pressure was screened in 30 Prolanis participants, while 23 participants completed the medication-adherence assessment. Participants were selected using total sampling among eligible attendees. Data were collected through registration, blood-pressure measurement, a structured medication-adherence questionnaire, health education, discussion, and mentoring. Descriptive analysis was performed using frequencies and percentages. Of 30 participants with available blood-pressure screening records, 23 had complete readings for the second observation period used in this activity. Of these 23 readings, 17 (73.9%) were at or above 140/90 mmHg and 6 (26.1%) were below 140/90 mmHg. Among the 23 participants completing the adherence assessment, 5 (21.7%) were categorized as adherent, 15 (65.2%) as having moderate adherence, and 3 (13.0%) as non-adherent. Moderate medication adherence was the most common category, while elevated blood-pressure readings remained frequent. Continued education, medication-adherence monitoring, family support, and routine Prolanis follow-up are recommended. Future evaluations should use repeated measurements and a pre-test/post-test design to assess changes attributable to the intervention.

Thalib et al. (2026) conducted a cross-sectional in Hypertension (n=30). Blood-pressure screening, medication-adherence assessment, and hypertension education/mentoring was evaluated on Elevated blood pressure (≥140/90 mmHg) on screening.
