Traffic is flowing freely. Then a driver spots a speed camera and brakes. The car behind brakes too, followed by others. A smooth ride can become a chain of sudden slowdowns. Just past the camera, drivers may speed up again. With TRAFFITECH-GH, Ghana is moving towards automated traffic enforcement. The cameras are designed to catch offences, but catching an offence is only part of the story. Where cameras stand and how drivers react can affect traffic well beyond the camera itself. So, will these cameras make our roads safer and smoother, or simply change where drivers slow down?
