EPPO Standard on DiagnosticsPM 7/129 (3) Generic guidelines for the use of DNA barcoding as an identification tool for a number of regulated pests Specific scope: This Standard describes generic guidelines for the use of DNA barcoding protocols using Sanger sequencing to support the identification of single specimens or pure cultures of several regulated pests in the following organism groups: arthropods, bacteria, fungi and oomycetes, nematodes, and invasive plant species, and comparing DNA barcode loci with those deposited in publicly available sequence databases. The procedure for generating sequence data, for creating a consensus sequence and for analysing data can also be used for non-culturable organisms (e.g.viruses and viroids, phytoplasmas). 1 It should be used in conjunction with PM 7/76 Use of EPPO diagnostic protocols and PM 7/164 to 168 where DNA barcoding tests are described by organism group.Species-specific barcodes may be described in pest specific Standards.
