Medical rounds are an integral part of clinical practice, and during medical rounds, healthcare providers present patient data, develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans, and continuously reassess ongoing clinical management. The development of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical rounds has evolved at a tremendous pace, offering opportunities to decrease the cognitive burden on clinicians, improve diagnostic accuracy, enhance workflow efficiency, and encourage more patient-centered care.In this review, we describe our institutional experience at Hospital Universitario San Vicente Fundación and synthesize the current evidence regarding the use of AI in medical rounds and its combination with other technologies, including the Internet of Things and electronic health records, and the impact of AI on clinical decision-making, as well as the challenges, limitations, and future opportunities associated with its use.The current scientific literature suggests that machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing-based AI applications are transforming traditional medical rounds into real-time, data-driven clinical decision-support processes.Additionally, this article describes the structured documentation template and AI-augmented progress note protocol implemented in a neurocritical care unit, illustrating how such frameworks may facilitate the integration of AI tools into routine intensive care unit practice.
