Shalakya Tantra, a specialized branch of Ayurveda, focuses on disorders affecting the area above the clavicles. Acharya Sushruta regards the eyes as the foremost among the five sense organs, while Acharya Vagbhata urges ongoing efforts to preserve eye health—since daylight and darkness mean nothing to the blind, rendering great wealth useless. Acharya Sushruta outlines the eye‘s gross anatomy in the starting chapter of Uttar Tantra, detailing six layers known as Netra Patala within the eye‘s structure. He systematically classifies 76 eye diseases (Netra Roga). Grasping the signs, symptoms, location, prognosis, and treatment of these conditions requires a solid understanding of Netra Patala. As Ayurveda‘s relevance grows today, simplifying its profound concepts is essential. This work aims to clarify the anatomical framework of Netra Patala.
