Topological magnetophotonics merges magneto-optical nonreciprocity with topological band theory to create new ways to achieve robust and multidimensional control of electromagnetic waves and light. This review traces the rapid evolution of the field over the past two decades and establishes a unified framework that connects tight-binding models, photonic-crystal analogies, electromagnetic scattering theory, and device-level concepts. We begin by introducing minimal tight-binding descriptions of topological phases and then construct their photonic-crystal counterparts. Through the lens of electromagnetic scattering, we further expose the connection between tight-binding Hamiltonians and full-wave photonic structures, clarifying the distinction between conventional nonreciprocity and topological nonreciprocity. Building on this foundation, we survey the expanding family of topological states in magnetophotonic systems and discuss their unique wave-transport properties and device implications. Finally, we outline how these concepts extend to emerging photonic platforms, highlighting future opportunities for topology-driven light manipulation.
