Stimpsonia danxiacola Xiao L.Zhao, Yan S.Huang & Q.Fan, sp. nov., a new species from southern China, is described and illustrated here, representing the third recognized species of the genus. Both morphological comparisons and phylogenetic analyses support S. danxiacola as a distinct species. The new species differs from S. chamaedryoides Wright ex A. Gray and S. nanlingensis G.H.Huang & G.Hao in its perennial habit, larger plant size, densely glandular-pubescent whole plant, viscid leaves, compound-racemiform inflorescences and calyx lobes which are reflexed at anthesis and gradually becoming connate in fruit, slightly exceeding the fruit.
