This paper presents twelve AMS radiocarbon analyses for Ongamira and Characato (Southern Pampean Hills, Argentina) using a problem-oriented strategy. In Ongamira, a basal limit for ADR (6005 ± 27 BP) and new dates for the Middle Holocene (4097 ± 22 BP) and Late Holocene (1823 ± 20 BP) were established. The ca. 2800-1900 BP hiatus in PNO1 was densified to document ceramic adoption, recurrent occupations in PNO5 (ca. 2250-1945 BP) were confirmed, and the first date for Pozos Blancos (1242 ± 20 BP) was obtained. In Characato, Cave 1 yielded a modern, uninterpretable result, while Cave 3 showed a late occupation (378 ± 27 BP). These results refine local chronologies, discuss the antiquity of pottery in Ongamira (ca. 2000-1900 BP), and reflect on chronological inequalities between areas with different research histories. It is concluded that this strategy maximizes the analytical value of radiocarbon dating.
