Introduction: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a heterogeneous lung disease characterized by chronic respiratory symptoms, such as dyspnea, cough, sputum production, and exacerbations due to progressive airflow obstruction. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2023, COPD is a global health problem with the number of cases reaching 392 million worldwide. This condition can cause impaired oxygenation, activity limitations, decreased quality of life, and requires comprehensive nursing management. This study aims to provide an overview of nursing care for Mr. S with COPD at Vita Insani Hospital Pematangsiantar. Methods: This study used a qualitative method with a descriptive design and a case study approach. The subject of the study was one patient with a medical diagnosis of COPD who was treated at Vita Insani Hospital Pematangsiantar on April 16–18, 2026. The instruments used included an informed consent form, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and a Medical-Surgical Nursing (MSN) assessment format. Results: Based on the results of the assessment, three nursing diagnoses were found, namely ineffective airway clearance, ineffective breathing pattern, and acute pain. After being given nursing care for 3x24 hours, the ability to cough effectively increased, secretions could be removed, complaints of shortness of breath decreased, respiratory frequency decreased from 30 times/minute to 20 times/minute, the need for oxygen therapy decreased, oxygen saturation increased from 95% to 98%, and the intensity of chest pain decreased from a scale of 6 to a scale of 1. Conclusion: The nursing care provided showed effective results in helping to improve airway clearance, improve breathing patterns and oxygenation status, and reduce pain intensity in COPD patients.
