October, celebrated globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, offers an opportunity not only to renew awareness about breast cancer but also to examine how we communicate messages about early detection critically. For decades, health campaigns have consistently emphasized the importance of finding breast cancer early. Across television interviews, radio discussions, community outreach programmes, social media campaigns, and health facility education sessions, one message repeats: "Detect breast cancer early." Yet an important question remains unanswered. When individuals are encouraged to identify breast lumps early, do they truly understand what an "early"lump feels like or how large it might be?
