Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) for industrial automation integrate physical equipment with sensing, computation, communication and control to create connected and responsive production environments. Unlike conventional automation, an industrial CPS continuously links machine states and process measurements with digital services such as analytics, edge computing and digital twins. This paper presents a practical architecture for industrial CPS and discusses the roles of sensors, actuators, PLCs, industrial networks, edge nodes and higher-level analytics. The discussion emphasizes closed-loop operation, interoperability, timing, safety and cybersecurity. Recent studies show that digital twins and edge intelligence can extend CPS from monitoring toward predictive and adaptive operation, while cybersecurity research highlights the need for layered protection across industrial networks, controllers and applications. The paper proposes a concise engineering workflow for deploying CPS in industrial automation and identifies key challenges involving latency, heterogeneous protocols, model synchronization, lifecycle security and validation.
