The aim of our study was to determine whether the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE), completed at 3.5 months corrected age, could help identify developmental difficulties at 2 years corrected age in infants born preterm between 29 and 36 weeks of gestation. A total of 174 infants were included in the analyses. We first administered the HINE at 3.5 months corrected age. We then completed a developmental assessment at 2 years corrected age using the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, Fourth Edition (Bayley-4) and the MacArthur–Bates Communicative Development Inventories. We found that the HINE total score administered at 3.5 months corrected age was not associated with later motor, cognitive, or language outcomes in infants born preterm between 29 and 36 weeks of gestation.
