The plane wave scattering by a three-dimensional (3D) thin nanosized silver tube of finite length is considered for both H- and E-polarization cases. The key contributions of this work are: (1) an effective approximate solution for thin silver tubes, and (2) a deeper insight into the essential physical differences between two-dimensional (2D) and 3D silver tube models under H-polarization. In particular, the minimum tube length required for the 2D model to be applicable is determined. The theoretical model was developed using the Method of Moments (MoM) for a thin tube with a surface impedance derived from the rigorous 2D solution for a silver tube. The bistatic radar cross section (RCS) was calculated as a function of frequency to determine the resonant frequencies, current distributions, and radiation patterns. The resonant frequencies obtained using the proposed approximate 3D model are in good agreement with those obtained using CST Microwave Studio.
