The world is at a crossroads today. On one side there is a blind race for economic development and on the other side there is a dying environment. Because of the excessive release of greenhouse gases, the global warming is taking a turn for the worse and natural hazards such as untimely floods, droughts and cyclones are becoming commonplace, and glaciers are melting. Indiscriminate felling of forests leading to loss of biodiversity. Water bodies and soils are severely contaminated with plastic waste and industrial chemicals, posing a serious threat to human health. The biggest issue is that the environment is not seen as a priority in development policies and consequently the ecological balance has been lost. In today's time, with the level of industrialization, unchecked urbanization and consumerist culture, the nature resources are being utilized at a much faster rate on a global level. As a result, serious problems like climate change, global warming, pollution and loss of biodiversity have arisen. “Environmental Sustainability” has not only been made an option but has been made an absolute necessity for human survival in this context. A major challenge at the moment is to reconcile economic development with ecological balance. The main objective of this research paper is to make an in-depth analytical assessment of the importance of environmental sustainability in the current scenario. The concept of environmental sustainability, and the importance of conserving and developing resources, are introduced.
