Leptospirosis is a problem for people’s health in rural areas. This is because where people live and the conditions, they live in make it easy for the disease to spread. It is also hard to put in place ways to prevent the disease. This study looked at what makes leptospirosis spread in areas. It used information from articles published between 2021 and 2025 in SciELO, Elsevier, Redalyc, PubMed, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar. The study found that being poor living in homes working with animals and not having access to basic things like clean water and healthcare are the main reasons people get leptospirosis. Not many people know about leptospirosis. Around 38.5% to 58.7% of people have some knowledge about it. People do not do a job of preventing the disease. For example, they do not throw away trash properly they store water and food in ways and they do not use things to protect themselves. Evaluated interventions reached an effectiveness of between 14% and 24% of the time, with participatory health education workshops showing the strongest results. This shows that the conditions people live in have an effect, on whether they get leptospirosis or not. The best way to reduce the risk of leptospirosis is to educate people in a way that involves them to make sure they have water and a clean place to live and to help people work together to prevent the disease. This is the way to keep people in rural areas from getting leptospirosis. Leptospirosis prevention is important. We need to focus on the things that will really make a difference. We need to think about leptospirosis and how it affects people in areas. Leptospirosis is a disease and we need to do something about it.
