The role of public libraries in the development of rural communities is very important, particularly in the areas of education, information and lifelong learning. In addition, public libraries establish local knowledge centres by distributing books, newspapers, employment information, agricultural information and state information to the students, farmers, workers, women and community. This study explores the role of public libraries in the dissemination of knowledge, and their influence on educational, social, economic and digital development in rural communities. The method used in this study is descriptive and analytical with literature study as well as research. The study is descriptive and analytical study because secondary data of published works, reports, books and other sources are taken to draw conclusions. The paper shows public libraries are reading culture enablers, digital literacy facilitators, information aware makers and career developers and community learning centers. However, the study also points out key issues of the public libraries such as insufficient funding, inadequate infrastructure, poor technology, lack of updated information, lack of professionalism, which hinder the growth of public libraries. Technology and resources — including books, pamphlets, staff and community engagement — will be the drivers of public libraries and rural development.
