The article examines the current practice of organizing and maintaining the accounting of non-financial assets in public medical institutions and substantiates scientific proposals and practical recommendations for its improvement. The research is based on the financial reporting data of the Republican Specialized Scientific-Practical Medical Center of Mental Health under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2018–2025. The analysis revealed that the simultaneous acquisition of non-financial assets from budgetary and extra-budgetary funds necessitates separate analytical accounting of their initial cost, depreciation and book value by sources of financing. On this basis, proposals were developed to introduce working accounts by sources of financing for machinery and equipment, medicines and medical supplies, and household products in the accounting policy of medical institutions, to extend the established day-based norms for year-end balances of household and stationery goods, to apply the FIFO method for writing off medicines, and to proportionally reduce the initial cost and accumulated depreciation of fixed assets in cases of their partial liquidation.
