Rural livelihoods are influenced by a combination of economic, social, agricultural, infrastructural, and institutional conditions that determine the ability of households to secure sustainable sources of income and improve their quality of life. The present study aimed to identify and examine the major livelihood problems and opportunities perceived by rural respondents in Narwana and Uchana Blocks of Haryana. A descriptive research approach was adopted, using a quantitative survey method for the collection of primary data. A total of 100 respondents from the selected study area were included through purposive sampling. A structured questionnaire was used to obtain respondents’ perceptions regarding various constraints and potential opportunities associated with rural livelihoods. Descriptive statistical techniques were employed to examine the general pattern of responses, while Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was applied to identify the underlying dimensions of livelihood problems and opportunities. The study provides an empirical understanding of the factors shaping livelihood conditions in the selected rural areas and highlights areas with potential for livelihood improvement, income diversification, skill development, better access to institutional support, and sustainable economic activities. The findings may provide useful insights for policymakers, rural development agencies, and other stakeholders in designing locally relevant livelihood interventions. The study emphasizes the importance of addressing livelihood constraints while strengthening available opportunities for sustainable and inclusive rural development.
