The purpose of this work is presented in detail in the body of this paper. The objective of this work is to present a fresh look at the improvement of the data freshness within large-scale, multi-hop wireless networks and also to compare the Fresh-CSMA and Conventional CSMA in order to measure data freshness. Data freshness is important because in real-time applications such as IoT, sensor networks, smart monitoring, and industrial control systems, the value of the data that has been sent via wireless networks is based on two factors: the successful delivery and how new the information sent is when it was received at the destination. Therefore, in order to measure the freshness of an update, the Age of Information (AoI) has been utilized as the key measure of the performance of data updates. In order to accomplish the previous objectives, a Python-based simulation model of a multi-hop wireless network consisting of 2000 nodes was created, through which packets were generated, forwarded, and received through multiple intermediate nodes.
