The research highlights citizens and their attitudes towards overtourism by focusing specifically on the three iconic city locations in the state of Kerala in India. The research locations are Kochi, Kozhikode, and Thiruvananthapuram. The research was conducted among 153 citizens of these locations using a structured questionnaire with a descriptive research approach. The studies are conducted to evaluate the financial, environmental, and social impacts of overtourism on citizens, in addition to their attitudes towards tourism development. The research framework is prepared on the basis of concepts of sustainable tourism, overtourism, and the attitude of citizens. The inferences from this observation are used to prepare an outline of all the issues being faced due to overtourism, in addition to suggesting some strategies to achieve sustainable tourism management in these locations. The research also highlights the importance of a resident-centric approach to managing issues caused by overtourism. The research also considers the involvement of local citizens in tourism spots to ensure that their needs are being fulfilled, thus leading to a more sustainable approach to tourism development. The proper implementation of these techniques will help in achieving a sustainable boom in the tourism region in Kerala.
