This study investigates the plastic deformation behavior of steel pipe piles and energy sharing in pile–soil systems to provide fundamental knowledge for advanced seismic design. Large-deformation horizontal loading tests were conducted on steel pipe piles driven into the ground, with loading continued well beyond local buckling. Based on the results, the plastic deformation behavior of the piles and energy sharing between piles and surrounding soil were evaluated. The tests were also simulated using the Coupled Eulerian–Lagrangian (CEL) method, and its applicability to analyzing the large-deformation behavior of pile–soil systems was assessed through comparisons with the experimental results.
