The register's P52 recorded giant resonances as the most direct bridge in the whole haul: strike any nucleus and the entire core rings as one object, measured across the table since 1947. A bridge is words. This paper asks the words to produce a number, using the cheapest honest estimate the cavity picture owns: a dipole slosh across the cavity has wavelength ~2R, so , running at the Fermi velocity of the packed matter — E(cavity) , fm, from the packing density with nothing tuned. Result: the estimate overshoots every measured centroid by a factor between 1.70 and 2.25 — right order, roughly right trend, wrong scale — and both of the reasons are known physics, credited below. [computed for the estimate; null on the scale and on the second term; every mechanism credited] Two fences stated before the table, so they cannot be unsaid: The shape is weak evidence on its own. Any wave confined to a region of size scales as . The shape does not distinguish this picture from any other size-R picture — RULES D11 menu-counting applies in full. The real restoring force of the GDR is the symmetry energy — protons sloshing against neutrons pay an isospin price. That is the Goldhaber–Teller (1948) and Steinwedel–Jensen (1950) account. The bare Fermi-velocity estimate does not contain it and is not credited with it. This record holds one paper on its own and is refreshed every couple of months.
