This study aims to determine: (1) the description of student learning achievement taught using the demonstration method, (2) the description of student learning achievement taught using the non-demonstration method, and (3) the effect of the demonstration method on student learning achievement in the subject of Automotive Engineering Basics at SMKN 5 Makassar. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The study population was 108 class X Automotive Engineering students, with a sample of 72 students consisting of 36 experimental class students and 36 control class students selected using the Cluster Random Sampling technique. Data collection techniques used tests, questionnaires, and documentation. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the nonparametric Mann–Whitney U test, and the Independent Sample t-Test. The results of the study showed that the learning achievement of students taught using the demonstration method increased from an average pretest score of 79.16 to 97.13 in the posttest or an increase of 17.97 points. Meanwhile, the learning achievement of students taught using the nondemonstration method only increased from an average pretest score of 70.46 to 72.87 in the posttest or an increase of 2.14 points. The results of the Mann–Whitney U test showed an Asymp. Sig. (2 tailed) value of <0.000, while the results of the Independent Sample t-Test showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 <0.05. Thus, H₀ is rejected and H₁ is accepted, so it can be concluded that the demonstration methodhas a significant effect on improving student learning achievement in the subject of Basics of Automotive Engineering at SMKN 5 Makassar
