Matrescence, the developmental transition to motherhood, involves profound psychological, relational, and identity shifts. Using a cross-sectional design, this study examined whether posttraumatic growth (PTG) is associated with maternal self-efficacy through parental reflective functioning, generational repair, maternal functioning, and attitudes toward motherhood. A sample of 303 mothers completed validated self-report measures assessing trauma-related growth and maternal adjustment. Results indicated a significant indirect effect of PTG on maternal self-efficacy, with maternal functioning emerging as the primary pathway, both independently and through reflective functioning. Findings support a strengths-based, trauma-informed model of motherhood and highlight maternal functioning as a key intervention target.
