The development of a photochemical strategy for the generation of a polarity-reversed trifluoroacetyl radical equivalent using the consecutive photoinduced electron transfer (ConPET) mechanism is described employing the commonly available 4CzIPN photocatalyst. This three-component, mild, and efficient protocol achieves the difunctionalization of a broad selection of alkenes and is compatible with late-stage functionalization of structurally complex unsaturated coupling partners. The proposed ConPET mechanism is corroborated by detailed mechanistic studies.
