Spiritiops is a Neotropical genus of Baetidae described by Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty in 1998 based on nymphs from Brazil and French Guiana. Currently, three species are known: Spiritiops silvudus Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty, 1998; Spiritiops tepuiensis Nieto & Derka, 2012 and Spiritiops atlanticus Alvim, Mariano, Jabeen, Nogueira & Salles, 2025, all only known from South America. The genus Spiritiops had previously been recorded for Colombia without precise locality data. Here, we describe a new species, Spiritiops mitu sp. nov., from the Colombian Amazon region, using morphological characteristics that distinguish it from other species of the genus: 1) body length 5.2–6.3 mm; 2) right mandible incisors with 8 (4+4) denticles; 3) right prostheca with 10–11 denticles; 4) left mandible incisors with 7 (4+3) denticles; 5) segment III of labial palp conical, centrally positioned at the apex of segment II; 6) maxillary palp longer than galea–lacinia, segment II apically with a small and pointed projection; 7) paraproct with 20–25 spines on inner margin. We provide an updated key to the nymphs and a comparative table of characteristics.
