Today's breakthrough: the knot invariants we use across quantum computing, DNA topology, and M-theory are not analogies. They are the same mathematical objects. Topology is a universal language of physical structure. Here is the context. Jones, HOMFLY, and Chern-Simons invariants have lived in separate literatures for decades. Quantum computing treats them as braiding amplitudes. Molecular biology treats them as measures of DNA knotting. String theory treats them as partition functions. My finding is that these are one structure viewed from three directions. The mechanism is Witten's result. The expectation value of a Wilson loop in Chern-Simons theory on a three-manifold equals a knot invariant. The action is S equals k over four pi, integral of Tr of A wedge dA plus two-thirds A cubed. The skein relation t-inverse V of L-plus minus t V of L-minus equals t-to-the-half minus t-to-the-minus-half times V of L-zero generates the whole invariant recursively.
