Phylogenetic analysis of the nucleotide sequences of the cytochrome oxidase I gene of specimens of Albanycada Villet, 1989 supported the hypothesis that the genus includes more than one species-level lineage. Comparison of the syntype of Platypleura albigera Walker, 1850, the type species of Albanycada , with the syntypes of Platypleura membranacea Karsch, 1890 confirmed that the two species are synonyms, so the other lineage is described under the name Albanycada bellinganorum Villet & Price, sp. nov . Lectotypes are designated for P. albigera Walker, 1850 and P. membranacea Karsch, 1890 to reflect these comparisons. Its morphology, geographical distribution, and calling song are illustrated. Ecological and conservation notes are summarised for both species, and their phylogenetic origins are discussed.
