The new species Aniba sessiliflora van der Werff (Lauraceae) is described. It is most similar to A. murcana C. K. Allen, from which it differs in its sessile flowers and glabrous or nearly glabrous abaxial leaf surface and midrib. The new species grows in montane forest at ca. 1800 m alt., while A. murcana is a lowland species. Aniba sessiliflora also resembles A. brochidodroma van der Werff, a montane species from which it differs by its larger, less pubescent leaves with immersed tertiary venation on the abaxial leaf surface.
