Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is projected to affect 38% of adults and is now the leading cause of chronic liver disease worldwide.1 MASLD spans a continuum from simple steatosis to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), which can progress to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The only FDA-approved therapies for patients with MASH and moderate-to-advanced fibrosis are semaglutide and resmetirom, an oral, liver-directed, thyroid hormone receptor β (THR-β)-selective agonist.
