Interval hypoxic-hyperoxic training safely improves exercise tolerance and hemodynamics in heart failure rehabilitation.
Why the study?
This review aimed to analyze modern approaches to rehabilitation and evaluate the possibilities and prospects of using interval hypoxic-hyperoxic training in patients with CHF.
Does interval hypoxic-hyperoxic training improve exercise tolerance, hemodynamic and metabolic parameters, and rehabilitation outcomes in patients with heart failure?
Does interval hypoxic-hyperoxic training improve exercise tolerance, hemodynamic and metabolic parameters, and rehabilitation outcomes in patients with heart failure?
Interval hypoxic-hyperoxic training is a pathophysiologically grounded, promising non-pharmacological adjunct or alternative to physical exercise for cardiac rehabilitation in heart failure patients, warranting large-scale randomized trials.

Shows promise in HF rehabilitation; leaves open confirmation by large RCTs.
Aim. The purpose of this review is to analyze modern approaches to rehabilitation and evaluate the possibilities and prospects of using the method of interval hypoxic-hyperoxic training (IGTT) in patients with CHF. Materials and methods . Analysis of scientific publications presented in databases elibrary.ru PubMed was conducted for the period from 2014 to 2024 on keywords such as "hypoxic effects, interval hypoxic training, hypoxic-hyperoxytherapy, re-oxy therapy, pathophysiological mechanisms of hypoxia, cardiorehabilitation." The inclusion criteria were the results of randomized trials, systematic reviews, as well as original articles with a control group. Results. It has been shown that the IGTT method is a promising direction that has a pathophysiological basis and demonstrates positive results in clinical trials. Conclusions. Further development and practical integration of this method require large randomized trials to confirm its clinical efficacy and safety.

Юрьевич et al. (2026) conducted a review in Chronic heart failure (CHF) and acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF). Interval hypoxic-hyperoxic training (IHHT / re-oxy therapy) vs. Standard cardiac rehabilitation or control group without re-oxy therapy was evaluated on Exercise tolerance (6-minute walk test), hemodynamic and metabolic parameters, and safety. Interval hypoxic-hyperoxic training safely improves exercise tolerance, heart rate, blood pressure, and natriuretic peptide levels in heart failure rehabilitation, though large RCTs are needed.
