Social support is associated with positive outcomes and recovery in forensic mental health services (FMHSs), yet service users’ experiences remain under-researched. This study explored experiences of social support in recovery among nine residents (4 females, 5 males) of medium-secure FMHSs using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Three themes emerged: (1) Cultivating emotional resilience through relationships, (2) A delicate struggle for connection and autonomy in the face of power, and (3) Ongoing journey of personal and relational growth. Immediate family were key support sources, alongside peers. Amidst vulnerability and disempowerment, social support fostered hope, highlighting FMHSs’ need to promote sustainable relationships supporting recovery.
