Over the last few years, remote work has gained grounds—it has shifted from being a temporary necessity during the COVID-19 pandemic to becoming a permanent feature of the contemporary workplace. The paper seeks to contribute to the literature of remote work by analysing its repercussions on employee motivation, which is one of the key drivers in employee relations. It examines how an altered work environment would influence intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, the latter focusing more specifically on job satisfaction, engagement, and resultant productivity attained. Based on the replication of existing scholarly literature and empirical research and the results of an online survey data collection instrument among remote workers in varying industries, the paper informs the comprehensive understanding of the nuanced relationship between remote work and employee motivation.
