Phasgonophora eywa Peraza sp. nov. (Hymenoptera: Chalcididae) is described and fully illustrated through photomicrography from both sexes collected in a disturbed dry forest within the suburban area of the city of Mérida (Mexico). The new species is compared morphologically with other described species from the New World. Furthermore, Phasgonophora dorsalis Ashmead, 1894 and P. rugithorax Strand, 1912 are transferred to Stypiura Kirby as Stypiura dorsalis (Ashmead) comb. nov. and Stypiura rugithorax (Strand) comb. nov. With these transfers the distribution of Phasgonophora is reduced to North America, with Mexico and Puerto Rico as its mainland and insular southernmost limit, respectively. An updated checklist of the 11 New World species of Phasgonophora, and a key to females of Phasgonophora based on the literature and examination of type specimen images, are also provided.
