The visualization of media has become one of the defining factors in their development in the 21st century, representing a natural consequence of the visual turn in communication, as well as its globalization and digitalization. This process has been examined within various fields — linguistics, semiotics, media studies, design theory, and journalism — which underscores the interdisciplinary nature of the topic. A review of the scientific literature shows that the visual components of media texts have evolved from a secondary element supplementing the verbal component to a fully legitimate object of research with its own methodological framework. In this study, we continue the investigation and define the concept of the “visual language of media” at the intersection of media linguistics and media design. Particular attention is paid to current practices for generating and editing visual components using artificial intelligence.
