Within the paradigm of the competency-based approach, we describe the route of geological practice for future geography teachers. It includes visiting a unique outcrop of Stramberg limestones in Ukraine. This outcrop is a valuable element of geoheritage that combines scientific, educational, and cultural significance. Part of the Stramberg limestone outcrop, which is not involved in quarrying, requires urgent protection. Its use as a geotourism and educational site can help preserve it. We provided examples of the main student activities at key points of the route. These activities include the basic description of the outcrop, sketching it, collecting and identifying rock and mineral samples. We emphasized the importance of students independently planning their routes. The description of the Stramberg limestone outcrop was presented in a form that combines historical, scientific, and educational components. This format allows the teacher or the students themselves to give mini-presentations at key points. We demonstrated how basic competencies are transformed during geological practice in the context of geotourism. This further strengthens the development of fieldwork skills. Discovering the significance of geotourism in geological practice integrates gaining geological knowledge alongside cultural and historical knowledge to reinforce the sense of place gained from combining the humanities with natural sciences. This type of practice also contributes to the training of specialists who, in their future professional careers beyond pedagogy, will focus on the preservation of geoheritage and unique geological sites such as the Stramberg limestone outcrop. The proposed model of geological practice can serve as a basis for developing practical training activities with a focus on regional specificities and local geohazards. The relevance of this approach is increasing in the context of the urgent need to preserve natural and cultural heritage for future generations. The provided example of geological practice can be easily adapted to any other geological sites in various locations.
