This article presents a multiturn design and characterization of a shielded planar loop magnetic field probe developed in printed circuit board (PCB) technology. Due to its compact structure and PCB-based design on a four-layer FR-4 substrate, the probe offers a cost-effective alternative to commercial magnetic field probes, while maintaining sufficient sensitivity, shielding, and frequency range of operation. The simulation and analytical results are validated with experimental measurements. Furthermore, a calibration setup consisting of Helmholtz coils and standard probe (antenna) method is shown and validated. Finally, a shielding effectiveness measurement method in Helmholtz coils is proposed and validated by measurements in a TEM cell.
