This article focuses on the figure of Margarita Salaverría Galarriaga, considered the first Spanish woman to pass the competitive exams for entry into the diplomatic service, through the study of her final course project, Memorias del curso en el extranjero, written after her educational journey through Central Europe in 1933. The aim of this research is to examine how she constructs a representation of the European interwar crisis and certain competencies associated with diplomatic work. The methodology adapted follows a qualitative historical-discursive approach based on the textual analysis of selected excepts from the memoirs preserved in the General Administration Archive. The analysis combines tools drawn from discourse analysis, pragmatics, and textual rhetoric. The findings show that Margarita Salaverría’s memoirs constitute not only an autobiographical and historical testimony, but also an example of diplomatic discourse characterized by discursive prudence, sociopolitical observation, and the construction of an intercultural perspective.
